melasma singapore

Cysteamine (Cyspera) is one of the most commonly used melasma treatment cream in Singapore. The other commonly used melasma treatment cream is hydroquinone cream (tri-luma).

What is Cysteamine (Cyspera®) Melasma cream in Singapore?

Cysteamine (Cyspera®) is a novel pigment corrector for hyperpigmentation concerns like melasmapost-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and freckles. Naturally present in human body, Cysteamine reduces melanin in the skin epidermis, effectively correcting pigmented marks. Cysteamine is the natural product of metabolization of cysteine, a sulfur-containing amino acid that is naturally present in abundance in the human body. Once in contact with the air, the fast oxidation of cysteamine produces a red cap at the surface of its tube and a slight sulphur-like odor. This is normal and harmless.

Widely used in Singapore, Cysteamine is a cosmeceutical that is produced in Switzerland.

The efficacy of Cysteamine Cream (Cyspera®) is linked to the chronicity, or consistency, of exposure over a period of time rather than the daily duration of exposure.

Ensure that you comply strictly to the daily application routine: not washing off your face before but after the 15 minutes application. A burning sensation and mild redness might occur immediately after application, but it will usually disappear after 30 minutes. This is a normal reaction and may happen during the first few days of application.

No significant side effects, other than light to mild irritation are reported in only a few cases. In case of sustained redness, irritation or dry-skin, suspend Cysteamine (Cyspera®) application and carefully hydrate the area with your basic hydration cream. You may gradually resume Cysteamine (Cyspera®) application once the skin is balanced again — once again, not washing off your face before, but after the 15 minutes application.

Is Cysteamine/ Cyspera safe for pregnant and breast-feeding women?

No study for use in pregnant and breast-feeding mothers has been conducted and hence cysteamine must not be used during pregnancy or when breast-feeding. Avoid using cysteamine (Cyspera®) if you, or somebody in your close family, suffer(s) from vitiligo. Do not mix with other skin routines. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature.
