Curious about how Regenera Activa®? Learn what it is, how it works, its costs and the treatment process. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
What is Regenera Activa®?
Regenera Activa® is a hair loss treatment that uses regenerative growth factors extracted from your scalp to stimulate areas experiencing hair loss. This procedure is non-surgical and takes only a few minutes to perform.
Regenera Activa® Benefits
Regenera Activa® is a minimally invasive treatment with little to no downtime, making it ideal for busy individuals who do not want to deal with the side effects of medication or the risks of surgery.
It treats hair loss in adult men and women. The hair loss treatment is also safe for colour-treated or processed hair.
This procedure starts with an extraction of skin samples from your scalp or the back of your neck using a punch biopsy tool. These micrografts are autologous or, in simpler terms, extracted from your own body. Regenera Activa® is a natural hair loss treatment with little risk of rejection from weakened hair follicles as the progenitor cells and growth factors were extracted from you.
Who Is Regenera Activa® For?
- Suitable for Men and Women
- People with a diagnosis of Female or Male Pattern Hair Loss
- Mild to Moderate Hair Loss/Hair Thinning
- People who want to strengthen scalp Before and After Hair Transplant
How Does Regenera Activa® Work?
Regenera Activa®’s patented system extracts a skin sample from your scalp, typically at the back of your neck, where your hair grows normally. The sample is extracted under local anaesthesia to minimise pain.
These samples are processed in a special device to extract growth factors and stem cells. These are regenerative cells that help stimulate hair follicles.
When injected into the areas affected by hair loss, these cells help stimulate hair growth. The result is increased hair density and stronger hair strands.

Regenera Activa® Treatment Procedure in Sozo Clinic
Here’s a detailed breakdown of what you can expect during a Regenera Activa® treatment session at Sozo Clinic.
Regenera Activa® is a 3-step procedure that only takes 1 hour.
Harvest of Micro-Grafts
After local anaesthesia (painkiller injection), 3-5 small skin samples (2mm) are extracted from the back of your scalp.
Extraction
The patented Regenera Activa device produces “micro-grafts” that have potent regenerative abilities.
Injection
Dr Boey customises his injection points to deliver optimal results in areas of greatest hair loss.
Pre-Treatment Consultation
Before starting any treatment, you’ll undergo a thorough consultation with our medical director and head aesthetic practitioner, Dr Justin Boey. This typically includes a scalp analysis, a review of your medical history and a discussion of your hair restoration goals. This step will determine if Regenera Activa® is the appropriate hair loss treatment for you.
During the Treatment
Our Regenera Activa® procedure follows a simple process to promote healthy hair growth. The treatment begins with the extraction phase, where a small area of the scalp is numbed using a topical anaesthetic before 3 to 4 tiny punches are made to the scalp. This step is quick and causes minimal discomfort.
Once the micro-grafts are extracted, they undergo a separation process, where they are processed and divided into smaller portions containing progenitor cells and growth factors. These cells and growth factors are then activated through vigorous mixing and centrifugation in a specialised machine.
In the injection phase, your practitioner uses syringes to inject the concentrated micro-grafts into areas of thinning hair.
The procedure is usually completed in less than an hour, making it convenient and time-efficient.
Post-Treatment Care
After the Regenera Activa® hair loss procedure, you’ll receive guidance on how to care for the treated areas. This typically includes the following tips:
- Avoid using hair products with harsh chemicals or undergo another hair treatment process for a few days.
- Keep the area protected from sunlight.
- Wait a few days before resuming strenuous activities, such as swimming or running.
- Use gentle products when washing your hair and scalp.
- Avoid touching or scratching your scalp to prevent irritation or infection.
- Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet to support scalp healing.
- Follow any additional aftercare instructions provided by your aesthetic practitioner.
What Results Can I Expect?
The first hair density and scalp coverage improvements can be observed three months after undergoing the Regenera Activa® hair growth procedure.
Next, you’ll notice an improvement in the thickness of existing hair and new hair growth over the next 12 months.
Results are enhanced when combined with other synergistic hair loss treatments.

FAQs About Regenera Activa®
Is Regenera Activa® Painful? Is there any downtime?
Your aesthetic practitioner will administer local anaesthesia to minimise pain during extraction. You’ll experience minimal discomfort during and after Regenera Activa® Treatment. You can resume your daily activities immediately after the treatment.
Is it safe?
Regenera Activa® has undergone extensive clinical trials for efficacy and safety. It is approved by major health regulatory authorities like the Europe CE and the US FDA for effectiveness and safety in treating androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss).
Can I combine Regenera Activa® with other treatments?
Yes. Regenera Activa® can be combined with other treatments, such as oral hair growth supplements, anti-hair loss shampoos, hair growth spray and low-level laser therapy, depending on the individual’s condition and preference. Combination treatment may lead to superior outcomes. It is common for patients to reduce their dosage of DHT-blockers after their Regenera Activa® treatment.
How many patients have undergone Regenera Activa®?
More than 6000 patients worldwide have been treated with this method since April 2015 (more than two years for protocol development). The number of people who have undergone this treatment continues to increase over the years.
Are there any contraindications?
Please postpone your Regenera Activa® hair loss treatment if you have an active skin disease or infection at the injection sites. You should also tell your doctor if you have any blood clotting disorders and autoimmune diseases.
During the consultation, make sure to mention any blood thinners. If you have had a history of herpes simplex infections, you will be given prophylactic antiviral medication before the treatment.
Can I resume normal activities after the treatment?
Yes. You can carry on with your daily activities immediately after the treatment. But remember that there are some common-sense considerations, such as avoiding exposing the injection sites to direct sunlight or heat (e.g., saunas, sunbeds) for two days after the treatment, as this may result in skin inflammation.
Refrain from strenuous physical activities that would increase your body temperature for two days after the treatment, as this may also result in skin inflammation. Also, avoid swimming for a week as the chlorine in swimming pools may irritate the skin.
Can I get Regenera Activa® Treatment even if I had a hair transplant?
Of course, hair follicles remaining in the recipient area can enjoy the benefits of Regenera Activa® treatment. In fact, it is a great way to maintain the results after a hair transplant. This is because Regenera Activa treats the whole scalp, not just the transplanted area.
This means that it can help thicken the existing hair and promote the growth of new hair in the transplanted and non-transplanted regions.
If I am about to get an FUE hair transplant, can I be treated with Regenera Activa®?
Yes. FUE Hair Transplant can be performed a few days before or after the micrograft procedure. Some physicians prefer to do it simultaneously because Regenera Activa® keeps the grafted hair follicles from falling.
When will I see the results?
Results may be seen as early as three months after the first treatment, but it is more common to see visible results after 6-9 months. A course of 3-4 treatments, spaced every 12 months, is recommended for best results.
Are there cases that do not achieve the desired results?
A good response is generally seen in 90% of the cases. Non-responders are usually patients with advanced male pattern hair loss or any hair loss conditions with very few hair follicles remaining on the scalp.
How long do results last?
Since the treatment harnesses the body’s ability to heal and regenerate new functioning hair follicles, results are expected to last long-term. However, as with any treatment, there is no guarantee that the results will be permanent.
How many times can I do the procedure in my lifetime?
Patients can repeat the hair transplant procedure to maintain the results. The treatment is generally safe and well-tolerated, with no significant side effects.
Should I stop my hair loss medications before or after doing the procedure?
Aesthetic practitioners recommend that patients continue taking their hair loss medications during and after the Regenera Activa® procedure. No evidence suggests that Regenera Activa® treatment can replace these medications.
Are there any risks to Regenera Activa®?
One of the beauties of Regenera Activa® is that it is a minimally invasive procedure with little to no downtime. The most common side effects are temporary redness, swelling, bruising and tenderness at the extraction and injection sites. These side effects typically resolve within a few days.
In rare cases, patients may experience an allergic reaction to the injected material. If this happens, the treatment will be immediately stopped, and appropriate medical treatment will be given.
What are the causes of hair loss?
Hair loss can happen due to various factors, including genetics or family history, ageing, hormones, certain cancer treatments, chemical hair products and medications. Common causes of hair loss include male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia), alopecia areata and telogen effluvium.
