Profhilo is the new kid of the block. Being neither a filler nor a skin booster, this special preparation of Hyaluronic acid injection promises more functions than filling wrinkles and hydrating the skin.

Profhilo versus Rejuran

Comparing Profhilo and Rejuran as a collagen stimulator, in my opinion, rejuran stimulates collagen in the more superficial layer targeting the dermis, thereby improving the skin texture by refining pores and fine lines.

Profhilo, in my opinion, is a more powerful bio-stimulator that is able to remodel skin tissue at multi-layer of the skin tissue allowing it to achieve not only improving superficial fine lines and skin integrity with elastin and collagen production. It also acts in the deeper subcutaneous layer which preserves and encourages the viability of fat stem cells that enables a more visible lifting effect.

Comparing the procedure of each injection, Profhilo is one of the least painful of all as it involves only 10 injection points to treat the lower face and this BAP injection technique is designed to avoid blood vessels and evenly distributes the product. Both rejuran and restylane skinboosters involves many injection points to ensure that the products are evenly distributed. By having more injection points, the downtime is usually longer with a higher risk of bruising. As Restylane skinbooster is a partially cross-linked HA product, it can potentially form bumps of HA under the skin which can last for up to a month.

Profhilo versus Skin Booster (Restylane)

Profhilo and Skin boosters (Restylane) are very similar in terms of chemical compound.

Although skin booster (Restylane) contains the same ingredient – HA, they are very different. Not only does Profhilo contain a higher concentration of HA 20mg/ml Vs 32mg/ml, it also uses a different technology to provide their unique functions.

For Restylane skin booster, they are partially crosslinked to allow it to have both properties of being able to give the instant ‘glow’ and a long-lasting effect.

Profhilo is thermally cross linked in a hybrid complex of high and low molecular weight HA which may not give as much of the instant glow effect but the ability to bio-remodel tissue through gradual release of HA allows it to achieve a more long lasting lifting effect with higher ability to stimulate collagen and elastin. By having stabilising HA with a thermal energy and avoiding formation of BDDE cross-linking bonds, the product tend to spread quickly into the surrounding tissue – this property is perfect so that minimal points are required to cover the entire face and the risk of forming any lumps is low.
