Marina Bay Sands in Singapore

Marina Bay Sands Singapore

Marina Bay Sands is an iconic tourist attraction that overlooks Marina Bay. This integrated resort offers spectacular views of the city among other treats. It is the property of Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

Marina Bay Sands would have been opened to the public in 2009 were it not for the financial crisis at the time and the increasing construction costs. For these reasons, the resort was opened in phases, the first being on 23rd June 2010. A grand opening was held on 17th February 2011.

Marina Bay Sands Singapore Design

Marina Bay Sands boasts a distinctive design. It is made up of three 55-storey hotel towers in which there are over 2500 luxury rooms and suites.

Atop the three towers is a Sky Park, an awe-inspiring architectural marvel that contains jogging paths, swimming pools, and gardens. Next to the three towers are a convention centre, casino, and a Theatre block.

Attractions at the Resort

The ArtScience Museum

The ArtScience Museum is designed to look like a lotus. Its permanent exhibition is the impressive ‘FUTURE WORLD: Where Art Meets Science.’ In addition to that, the museum also hosts important travelling exhibitions such as HUMAN+: The Future of our Species and NASA-A Human Adventure. All these creations show the fusion of art, science, and technology.

But, if you’re after an old-fashioned charm, you may also visit Raffles Hotel that boasts its colonial style.

The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands

The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is a whole section that caters to your shopping needs. It covers an area of 93, 000 square metres (about 1,000,000 square feet). This section has approximately 300 stores and hosts luxury brands such as Gucci, Prada, Cartier, Montblanc, Dior, Emporio Armani, Saint Laurent Paris, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang Bride, and Vertu.

A canal runs through the Shoppes, in a style that is strikingly similar to the Venetian in Las Vegas. Sampans are available for guests and shoppers to take rides on the canal. The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands also contains several F&B outlets.

Sands SkyPark

Marina Bay Sands Skypark Infinity Pool

Perhaps this is one of the attractions that you wouldn’t want to miss when you visit Marina Bay Sands. It is a three-acre park atop the three towers. The park has an infinity pool (one with a vanishing edge). The 146-metre edge makes it the longest elevated pool in the world.

The Observation Deck at the SkyPark offers unforgettable views of the city’s skyline. Aside from the pools, the park also has various plants and trees and gives the impression of a sandy beach. If you love partying, you’ll definitely love the SkyPark’ nightclubs.

Celebrity Chef Restaurants

You’d definitely want to try the creations of celebrity chefs. Marina Bay Sands Singapore hosts celebrity restaurants such as Tetsuya Wakuda’s Waku Ghin, Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen, Mario Battali’s Osteria Mozza, and Wolfgang Puck’s Cut.

Theatres

The Grand Theatre has a capacity of 2,155 while the Sands Theatre hosts 1,680 people. Both theatres have been used to air fantastic musicals such as Wicked and Lion King. Some of the noteworthy presentations to be held at the theatres include R. Rahman’s Jai Ho and Cirque Éloize.

Spectra

Spectra is a spectacular light and water show displayed at the Event Plaza. You will watch as the fountain, lasers and other amazing effects combine to produce a light & water show you’ve ever seen anywhere before. Music playing in the background accentuates this extraordinary sight.

There are several other interesting attractions such as the casinos and pavilions that you’ll see when you visit. Various popular events are held at the resort every year.

Marina Bay Sands Singapore stands majestic at Bayfront MRT Station near the CBD. This wonderful place offers so much – from fine dining, swimming at the infinity pool to having exciting experiences at its lively nightclubs.
